Christmas Eve refers to the evening or entire day proceeding Christmas Day, a widely celebrated festival commemorating the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. It is a culturally significant celebration for most of the Western wolrd and is widely observed as a full of partial holiday in anticipation of Christmas Day. Traditions are a big part of the holidays and Christmas Eve is no exception. Every country has their customs that make this special holiday. Here are several traditions to do on Christmas Eve.
Take a Christmas lights tour around your city. Go online or check your local newspaper for Christmas Light Displays and map out a route, tell the kids to get dressed in their pajamas and then taking a Christmas Light Tour. Bring some snacks and maybe some hot chocolate in the coffee type sippy cups.
Make Christmas crafts. Go online and search under Christmas crafts. There are hundreds of ideas for decorations, ormaments, and homemade gifts. Spend the evening making a special one for your family each year.
Prepare Christmas Eve dinner. Many Christmas Eve meals traditionally are ham or fowl. Some families like to keep the meal light and serve soup and crackers because of the big meal planned for the holiday. By and large, most have the good sausage and cheese on hand for tasty snacks and appetizers.
Deliver Christmas gifts. Many people use this day to deliver gifts to friends and leave presents for service providers such as mail carriers and newspaper delivery personnel. With all of the activities planned for the holidays, some families choose Christmas Eve to exchange their gifts.
